If you're considering a run for the position of Mayor of Frankfort or City Commissioner, please note that the county clerk’s office is currently accepting applications through the filing deadline of January 5, 2024. Candidates must reside within the city limits.
DIG supports candidates for Mayor and City Commissioner who are committed to ensuring that public infrastructure and available land are sufficient to support future economic development. Currently, with 85 acres earmarked for industrial development on Duncan Rd, Franklin County has limited IG (Industrial General) zoned acreage for substantial growth. Over 75% of our county's land is zoned agricultural, posing challenges in attracting industries. We seek elected officials who grasp the importance of continually designating land as industrial through the comprehensive plan process. These officials should also be willing to invest in essential infrastructure, such as sewers, for the development and promotion of these properties.
Elected officials are encouraged to collaborate with KCDC to comprehend available opportunities and establish a strategic economic development plan spanning the next 10 to 20 years. DIG supports candidates with strategic foresight who recognize the importance of designating properties conducive to future growth. Our goal is to attract industries that generate high-paying jobs, thereby increasing our population base to support local businesses. This strategy aims to sustain a healthy customer base and foster continuous tax revenue growth without imposing annual tax hikes on residents.
The strategic growth of businesses will have a ripple effect, enhancing the competitiveness of Frankfort/Franklin County in attracting and retaining businesses and industries. Ultimately, this will lead to improvements in the community's quality of life for years to come. Establishing a reputation as a vibrant and business-friendly community, open to various growth streams, serves as the most effective marketing tool for attracting investments."
