Ruth Bader Ginsburg so appropriately recognized that “Women belong in all places where decisions are being made...”. In Frankfort, KY we are blessed with numerous exemplary women who are regularly being found in places where important decisions are, in fact, being made.
From the city manager, city attorney and Franklin County Deputy Judge to the economic development and tourism agencies, local businesses and industries and elected officials, we are blessed to have women leaders who bring their special skills, attributes, and diversity to our local decision-making process.
Studies show that including more women in leadership roles, is linked to more innovation and financial performance, deeper connections with customers, and inspiration for other women. According to a 2019 S&P Global study, firms with female CEOs and CFOs result in excess profits and increased stock price performance over the market average.
In honor of these wonderful women and others who have paved the way, the Frankfort/Franklin County community will celebrate women’s equality on August 27 with an event initiated by the local Women’s Suffrage Centennial Chorus and hosted in partnership with the City Frankfort, Franklin County Tourist Commission, Downtown Frankfort, Inc., Frankfort Parks, Recreation and Historic Sites, Kentucky Capital Development Corporation, and the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The event is a celebration of women’s history and women’s equality.
It will recognize the history of the women’s suffrage movement while also focusing on the continued fight for equal rights by involving women in their local community.
The day will kick off with a celebratory march for women in downtown Frankfort at 11:30 and culminate on the Old Capitol steps with notable speakers. The afternoon will feature a community involvement fair on the Old Capitol Lawn, highlighting community organizations that specifically provide ways for women to be involved in local efforts both politically and philanthropically.
Local women’s networking and civic groups will be represented, as well as opportunities for voter registration and a voter simulation activity. Events will also be held throughout downtown, including the tour of the women suffragists buried at the Frankfort Cemetery, tours at the Kentucky History Center, Liberty Hall Historic Site and the Capital City Museum, and downtown Frankfort merchants will be open for shopping and dining.
As was also noted by Judge Ginsburg,”. . . As women achieve power, the barriers will fall. As society sees what women can do, as women see what women can do, there will be more women out there doing things, and we’ll all be better off for it.” Frankfort is already better for it, and we are grateful.
Please join us to celebrate. To see the full schedule of events, reserve tickets for select events, and plan your day in downtown Frankfort, visitwww.kywscc.com , or join the Kentucky Women’s Suffrage Centennial Celebration on Facebook.
